Chen Qing Qing is the daughter of a rich household desperately wanting to avoid an arranged marriage and find love on her own terms. On the day of the wedding, she flees town and heads out to enroll in the same college where her parents studied, hoping to find out more about their death. She changes her appearance and name in an effort to hide her true identity and does her best to blend in with her classmates. Her desk-mate in school turns out to be the famous singer, Si Tu Feng, whom she's already had multiple run ins with. The two don't start off on the right foot, quarreling constantly and causing each other trouble. But could there be more between them? Thus starts Qing Qing's quest for answers about her parents death and a chance at real love.
Feelings: First Episode
Did not expect to be hit the way I did with this one. Honestly, happened upon it one regular day and I binged the rest within a week. The main actress is SO pretty and the main actor was so long shaped. I was intrigued by his appearance.
Sun Yi Ning as Chen Qing Qing / Qing Chen
Pretty rich girl with a twist. She is defiant because she wants to experience more but she's actually very intelligent, independent, and still respects her grandfather. Her fake self she dresses up as to go to college is super silly but somehow she pulls it off and looks cute. The freckles looked cartoonish but believable at other times. I was trying to figure out her hair game the entire time, I was so confused. She would put Si Tu Feng's face in her hands so warmly and with so much care - it was too cute sometimes. I enjoyed watching her annoyance with Si Tu Feng turn to into a crush (that voice got her good) and then blossom into love.
Fiction Guo as Si Tu Feng / "Your Highness"
What a goofy idol! He is obviously so full of it, I was squirming watching the first Highness scene because of the corniness. But he actually has a beautiful singing voice and is just a young guy who wants to sing. The way he becomes attached and falls for Chen Qing was very juvenile which made it so sweet to watch as it peeled away his idol facade and exposed a boy who never properly mourned the death of his first love.
Zhao Yi Qin as Lin Yi Yang
Love a good fake villain who is actually sweet and gentle in nature.
Ma Li as Gu Nan Xi
Nice guys finish last? Well yes, sometimes that is the case. Too bad he couldn't get a love interest. Also Nan Xi is lowkey a cute male name even though it sounds like Nancy.
Zhou Mo as Zhang Fang Fang
I wanted more from this shy girl. I wanted to see more emotions out of her, she was very reserved. I guess I really just wanted to see her pursue Yi Yang and like aggressively steal a kiss or something. Still cute though!
Cheng Mu Xuan as Lan Xin Ya
Her hair was wayyy to red. I feel like a real rich snobby girl wouldn't dye their hair that red color. But she was a great female opponent even though she had no chance with Si Tu Feng. I think she mistook her protectiveness over Si Tu Feng as love. Often we think we are in love with close childhood friends or thinking that it would be a good match when in reality you've moved into familial territory and so when you try to make a move it's weird and sometimes can ruin the friendship. I appreciate she stopped with the bullshit at some point . Also liked they sparked a little something something between her and "baby" boy Hua Mu Nian (am I buggin or everyone thought he was gay?).
Post Feelings: Finishing the Series
I am shocked there isn't more hype about this show. As far as romance dramas go, this one ranks pretty high in my book. Production was excellent (thanks Netflix), story was far fetched but still started and ended cleanly, and the couple had great chemistry. Even their kiss was good! (juicy lips amiright?) I had so much fun binging this show!
